We implemented an automated solution to enrich customer profiles using social media data from Social Studio. Our marketing team was manually importing social engagement data weekly, which delayed campaign personalization and missed real-time opportunities.
The automation connects Social Studio API to our Salesforce instance through scheduled ETL jobs that run every 4 hours. We extract engagement metrics, sentiment scores, and topic interests from social interactions, then map them to custom fields on Contact and Lead objects.
Key implementation aspects included Social Studio API integration for data extraction, ETL job scheduling using Salesforce Flow and external middleware, and custom field enrichment logic that scores social influence and engagement levels. The system updates over 15,000 profiles daily with fresh social intelligence.
Since deployment, our campaign response rates improved 34% and sales teams have real-time visibility into customer social sentiment before calls. The automated enrichment eliminated 12 hours of weekly manual work.
Great questions. For API rate limits, we implemented exponential backoff logic in our middleware layer and spread the ETL jobs across staggered time windows. Instead of one large batch, we process data in 500-record chunks with 2-minute intervals between calls. This keeps us well below the 2,000 calls per hour limit.
For field mapping, we went with unified engagement scores rather than platform-specific fields. We created three custom fields: Social_Engagement_Score__c (0-100 composite), Social_Sentiment__c (positive/neutral/negative), and Top_Social_Topics__c (multi-select picklist). This simplified reporting and made the data more actionable for sales teams who don’t need platform-level granularity.
What middleware did you use for the ETL orchestration? We’re evaluating MuleSoft versus custom Apex scheduled jobs. Also wondering about data quality - how do you handle duplicate social profiles or conflicting sentiment data from different platforms for the same customer?
Did you build any custom Lightning components to surface this social data on the Contact or Lead pages? I’m thinking a timeline view showing recent social interactions would be valuable. Also interested in whether you’re using Platform Events to trigger real-time updates or relying on the scheduled ETL jobs only.
