Great question. We use a hybrid approach - each test suite has dedicated test data fixtures that get created during setup and cleaned up during teardown. For employee records, we maintain a pool of test users that don’t conflict with real UAT users. The tricky part was handling training records with completion dates and certificates, since those have audit trail requirements. We implemented a test data tagging system where all automated test records are flagged with a specific prefix, making cleanup easier while preserving audit integrity.

We prioritized integration testing from day one.
