Automated workforce demand forecasting by integrating SuccessFactors with SAP Analytics Cloud

Implemented an automated workforce demand forecasting solution that transformed our planning cycle from quarterly to monthly updates. The integration extracts historical headcount, turnover, and hiring data from SuccessFactors using OData V2 APIs, feeds it into SAP Analytics Cloud predictive models, and generates demand forecasts by department and skill set. Scheduled jobs run automatically on the first of each month, creating real-time dashboards that our workforce planning team uses to drive recruiting priorities. The system also links back to the recruiting module to automatically adjust job requisition priorities based on forecast demand. Reduced planning cycle time by 75% and improved forecast accuracy by 40%.

Before implementing similar solution, consider data governance. Who owns the forecast data? How do you handle scenarios where automated priorities conflict with business unit hiring plans? We found that pure automation without human oversight led to pushback from department heads who felt their hiring authority was undermined.

How did you configure the scheduled job automation? Are you using SAP Analytics Cloud’s native scheduling or external orchestration? We’ve had issues with job failures during month-end processing when SuccessFactors is under heavy load.

We extract from PerPerson, EmpEmployment, and PerPersonal entities for employee master data. Also pull from FOCompensation for cost modeling and Position entity for organizational structure. Historical data goes back 3 years with quarterly snapshots. Implemented data quality rules to handle missing values and outliers before loading to Analytics Cloud. Used custom calculated fields to normalize job codes across organizational changes.

We use SAP Analytics Cloud’s Data Action scheduling combined with SAP Integration Suite for orchestration. Jobs are configured to run at 2 AM on the first of each month when SuccessFactors load is minimal. Implemented retry logic with exponential backoff for API failures. Also added data validation checkpoints that alert us if extraction volumes deviate significantly from expected ranges. This catches issues before bad data reaches the predictive models.
