Formula management reporting dashboard not showing KPI values

We’re running SAP PLM 2020 and having issues with our formula management reporting dashboard. The KPI values for batch efficiency and yield calculations aren’t displaying correctly. The dashboard shows empty fields where the KPI metrics should appear.

I’ve checked the data source mapping and confirmed the formula attributes are being captured in the backend. When I query directly:

SELECT formula_id, batch_yield, efficiency_rating
FROM plm_formula_metrics
WHERE status = 'ACTIVE'

The data returns correctly with values. However, the SAP Analytics Cloud integration seems to be missing these custom attributes in the dashboard view. Has anyone experienced similar KPI visibility issues with formula management reporting? We need these metrics for regulatory compliance tracking.

Looking at the three key focus areas for your issue:

Dashboard Data Source Mapping: Your SQL query confirms data exists, so the problem is in the Analytics Cloud layer. Navigate to Analytics Cloud > Connections > SAP PLM and edit your formula management data source. Add explicit column mappings:

MAP SOURCE.batch_yield TO KPI.BatchYield
MAP SOURCE.efficiency_rating TO KPI.EfficiencyRating
SET AGGREGATION = AVG FOR KPI.BatchYield

Custom Attribute Reporting: The standard formula dashboard in SAP PLM 2020 doesn’t include custom KPI attributes by default. You need to extend the reporting metadata. Go to Customizing > PLM > Formula Management > Reporting Configuration and add your custom attributes to the available fields list. Mark them as ‘Dashboard Visible’ and set appropriate data types.

SAP Analytics Cloud Integration: This is likely where your main issue lies. The Analytics Cloud model needs to be regenerated to include the new custom attributes. In Analytics Cloud, go to your Formula Management model > Edit Structure > Add Measures. Import the batch_yield and efficiency_rating fields from your PLM data source. Set them as measures (not dimensions) with appropriate aggregation rules.

Additionally, check the OData service configuration. Custom formula attributes must be exposed in the service metadata for Analytics Cloud to consume them. In transaction /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE, find your formula management service and verify the EntityType includes your KPI fields.

For data governance policies, ensure no row-level security rules are filtering out the KPI values. Check table RSECADMIN for any restrictions on the formula metrics tables that might affect your user context.

After making these changes, clear the Analytics Cloud cache and refresh your dashboard. The KPI values should appear. If issues persist, enable trace logging in Analytics Cloud to see exactly which fields are being requested and what’s being returned from the PLM backend.

This draft is based on general SAP PLM knowledge. It has not been verified against your specific version and environment. Practitioners: verify the steps and share your experience below.

I’ve seen this before with custom attributes not mapping correctly to Analytics Cloud. Check your data source configuration in the reporting module. The formula management KPIs need explicit field mappings defined in the dashboard metadata. Go to Reporting Configuration > Data Sources > Formula Management and verify the custom attribute bindings are active.

This is typically a dashboard data source mapping issue. In SAP PLM 2020, custom formula attributes require manual mapping to Analytics Cloud dimensions. You need to create a custom data model that includes your batch_yield and efficiency_rating fields. The standard formula management dashboard template doesn’t automatically pick up extended attributes. I recommend creating a new data model in Analytics Cloud that explicitly references these KPI fields from your PLM formula tables.

Tested this on SAP PLM 2020 with Analytics Cloud 2023.Q3, and adding explicit MAP SOURCE column mappings immediately surfaced BatchYield KPI values in our formula dashboard.

Had the exact same problem last quarter. The issue is that SAP Analytics Cloud needs the custom attributes to be exposed through the OData service layer. Check if your formula KPI fields are included in the reporting service metadata. You might need to extend the service definition to include these custom attributes in the exposed entity set.

Another thing to check - make sure your user role has permissions to view custom formula attributes in the reporting module. Sometimes the data is there but the dashboard filters it out based on authorization objects. Verify in PFCG that your role includes S_TABU_DIS with appropriate table authorization groups for the formula metrics tables. Also check if there are any data governance policies blocking access to these specific KPI fields.

I’d look at the Analytics Cloud connection settings. In my experience with SAP PLM 2020, the live data connection sometimes doesn’t refresh custom attributes properly. Try switching to an imported dataset model instead of live connection for the formula management data. This gives you more control over which fields are included and how they’re mapped to dashboard KPIs. The trade-off is you’ll need to schedule data refreshes, but at least you’ll see the values.
