Personalized email marketing segments driven by unified contact data model in SAP CX

We recently implemented a unified contact data model in SAP CX to power our personalized email marketing campaigns, and I wanted to share our approach for teams facing similar challenges with fragmented contact data.

Our business problem was clear: customer information scattered across multiple touchpoints (web, mobile, in-store) made it impossible to create meaningful email segments. Marketing was sending generic campaigns because they couldn’t access consolidated behavioral and demographic attributes.

The solution centered on three pillars: building a unified contact data model that consolidates attributes from all channels, implementing cross-channel attribute consolidation through SAP CX Segmentation, and creating dynamic segmentation rules that automatically update based on real-time customer interactions.

The impact has been significant - email engagement rates increased 47% within the first quarter, and our marketing team can now create hyper-targeted segments in minutes instead of days. We’re seeing much higher conversion rates on promotional campaigns.

I’m curious about performance. With dynamic segments updating constantly based on real-time interactions, did you encounter any issues with segment calculation times or email send delays? We tried something similar and our batch jobs started timing out.

What about the dynamic segmentation piece? How granular did you get with the rules, and how do you prevent segment overlap issues?

This is exactly what we’re trying to achieve! Can you elaborate on how you structured the unified contact data model? We’re struggling with deciding which attributes to consolidate versus keeping channel-specific. Did you create a master contact entity or extend the existing contact object?
