After upgrading to SAP PLM 2020, workflow task notifications for quality inspections are no longer being sent via email. The workflows execute correctly and tasks appear in users’ SAP inboxes (SBWP), but email notifications that previously worked in our old version have stopped.
We’ve verified that SAPConnect is configured and test emails from SCOT work fine. The workflow tasks show ‘Notification Sent’ in the workflow log, but recipients never receive the emails. This is causing missed inspections as quality inspectors don’t monitor SAP inbox regularly and rely on email alerts. We need to restore email notifications for inspection approval tasks, material release workflows, and nonconformance routing. Has anyone encountered SWNCONFIG notification issues after upgrading to SAP PLM 2020?
Checked SWNCONFIG and found that notification settings exist for the workflow tasks, but they’re set to ‘No notification’ instead of ‘Email’. However, when I try to change it to ‘Email’, the system accepts the change but emails still don’t send. Is there another layer of configuration needed?
Classic upgrade issue. Check transaction SWNCONFIG first - your notification settings probably weren’t migrated properly. Look for the task-specific notification configuration for your quality management workflow tasks. The upgrade often resets these to default values which might disable email notifications even though the workflow log claims they were sent.
Don’t overlook SAPConnect configuration in SCOT. After upgrades, the RFC destination for workflow notifications sometimes gets disconnected. Check that the SMTP node is properly configured with authentication credentials and that the workflow system is registered as a valid sender. Transaction SICF should show the workflow notification service as active. Test the complete path: SWNCONFIG → Email Template → SCOT → SMTP server.
Good catch on the user data validation. We found several users with malformed email addresses. Fixing those now and will test the complete configuration.
