The trend analysis becomes powerful when you track this correlation over multiple releases. We’ve found that as acceptance criteria completion improves from 75% to 95%, defect density drops by an average of 45% - similar to your observation. But the relationship isn’t linear. The biggest quality gains occur when completion moves from 85% to 95%, suggesting that thoroughness in the final acceptance criteria is disproportionately important.
For metric selection in release gate decisions, we use a composite quality score: (Acceptance Completion % × 0.6) + ((1 - Normalized Defect Density) × 0.4).
